{"id":376,"date":"2020-12-22T07:16:38","date_gmt":"2020-12-22T12:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abudinen.com\/blog\/?p=376"},"modified":"2021-04-11T11:47:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-11T16:47:49","slug":"puranas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abudinen.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/22\/puranas\/","title":{"rendered":"Puranas"},"content":{"rendered":"\nThere are 1\u00a0Maha Purana, 17\u00a0Mukhya Puranas\u00a0(Major Puranas) and 18\u00a0Upa Puranas\u00a0(Minor Puranas),[7]\u00a0with over 400,000 verses.[2]\u00a0The first version of various Puranas were likely to be composed between 3rd- and 10th-century CE.[8]\n\n\n\nMarkandeya purana\n\n\n\nThe&nbsp;Markandeya&nbsp;text is probably one of the oldest Puranas in Hinduism.[2][15]&nbsp;The text&#8217;s literary style and content, wherein the early chapters read like a supplement to the Hindu epic&nbsp;Mahabharata&nbsp;has led scholars to suggest it is an early composition that likely followed the epic.[2]\n\n\n\nThe&nbsp;Markandeya Purana, states&nbsp;Wendy Doniger, is probably from&nbsp;c.&nbsp;250 CE, with the exception of the&nbsp;Devi Mahatmya, which she dates to&nbsp;c.&nbsp;550 CE.[15]&nbsp;Other scholars have also suggested that parts of this Purana existed by the third century.[16]&nbsp;In contrast, Nileshvari Desai suggests that the oldest of extant manuscripts probably is from the 7th-century CE.[12]\n\n\n\nThe text has also been dated with the help of epigraphical evidence.[2][17]&nbsp;The&nbsp;Dadhimati Mata&nbsp;inscription, for example has been dated to be from 608 CE, and this inscription is a quote from chapter 10 of the&nbsp;Devi Mahatmya&nbsp;(91st chapter of the Purana). This suggests that this part of the text existed by the 6th century CE.[2][17]&nbsp;A complete&nbsp;Palm-leaf<span class=\"maquina-leer-mas\">[...x]<\/span><div id=\"premium-content-gate\" style=\"display:none;\" class=\"contenido-premium\"> manuscript&nbsp;of the text was discovered in&nbsp;Nepal, and has been dated to 998 CE.<sup>[14]<\/sup>&nbsp;Similarly, the early 8th-century text&nbsp;<em>Malatimadhava<\/em>&nbsp;of Bhavabhuti references Devi Mahatmya, which implies the text was established and in circulation by then.
