These \u0100gama sutras are as follows:\n\n\n\nThe Lengthy \u0100gama Sutras no. 6, Sutra on the Practices of the Wheelturning King (emperor, monarch?) (T.1:39a\u201342b).The Middle-length \u0100gama Sutras no. 66, Sutra of Allegories (T.26:508c\u2013511c).3 The Gradual \u0100gama Sutras (T.125:645a\u2013645b).4 The Gradual \u0100gama Sutras (T.125:756c\u2013758c).The Gradual \u0100gama Sutras (T.125:787c\u2013789c).\n\n\n\nBefore getting too caught up in anticipation, it’s important to understand that in most schools of Buddhism linear time is an illusion. This makes speaking of a literal future a bit problematic since “future” is an illusion. From this perspective, it would be a huge mistake to think of Maitreya as a messianic figure who will come in the future to save mankind.\n\n\n\nMaitreya has rich metaphorical significance in several Mahayana sutras. For example, Nichiren interpreted Maitreya’s role in the Lotus Sutra to be a metaphor for stewardship of the dharma.\n\n\n\nRead more about maitreya sutra being composed in ashoka time. Monk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the An\u0101gatavamsa, Maitreya buddha was a monk disciple named Ajita<\/em>. One day, Gotam\u012b offered a golden robe to Gotama and his disciples. As no disciple accepted it, Ajita accepted the offering. The monk crowd were not satisfied as they felt that the robe was dedicated to the Buddha. In order to prove that Ajita is his successor, Gotama Buddha hid his emerald alms bowl and told his disciples to help retrieve it. Only Ajita was able to retrieve his bowl. After getting his alms bowl back, Gotama Buddha explained to his disciples that Ajita would become the next future Buddha. He also had told the future biography of Maitreya as S\u0101riputtara requested for it. After getting the omen, Ajita donated Gotami’s robe as the ceiling of the monastery.[3]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Millennium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Maitreya has also been employed in a\u00a0millenarian\u00a0role by many non-Buddhist religions in the past, such as\u00a0Theosophy, the\u00a0White Lotus, as well as by modern\u00a0new religious movements, such as\u00a0Yiguandao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prophecy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I have heard one prophecy is that Buddhism and the dharma will be wiped out and forgotten, receding back into emptiness. However Buddha nature is always there and if conditions are right, will reemerge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this is so obvious it doesn’t really count as a prophecy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does it mean? All things fall. Where samsara exists and awareness rises, a being will awake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
