However, its ancient Chinese translations&nbsp;A-yu wang chuan&nbsp;(c. 300 CE), and&nbsp;A-yu wang ching&nbsp;(<span class=\"maquina-leer-mas\">[...x]<\/span><div id=\"premium-content-gate\" style=\"display:none;\" class=\"contenido-premium\">c. 512 CE) suggest that it once existed as an independent text.<sup>[6]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It highly praises the city of Mathura, its monasteries and its monks.<sup>[2][3]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the prominent Indologist, A. L. Basham, Ashoka\u2019s personal religion became Buddhism, if not before, then certainly after the Kalinga War. However, according to Basham, the Dharma officially propagated by Ashoka was not Buddhism at all. Nevertheless, his patronage led to the expansion of Buddhism in the Mauryan empire and other kingdoms during his rule, and worldwide from about 250 BCE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thousand of miles to the east another teacher of similar ideas was going to receive the Alexander treatment.
