The Amager Bakke waste-to-energy plant burns waste collected from 500,000 – 700,000 inhabitants and 46,000 companies in and around Copenhagen. Designed to utilise 100% energy content of the waste, the plant achieved an energy efficiency of 107%. https://www.power-technology.com/projects/amager-bakke-waste-energy-plant/

The Hole in Earth’s Ozone Layer Is Healing, First-of-Its-Kind Study Shows By Calla Cofield First Published 3 years ago https://www.space.com/39315-nasa-satellite-shows-healing-ozone-hole.html
Is the Ozone Layer Finally Healing Itself? BY John P. Rafferty Some two years later, scientists got sufficient data to confidently reveal proof that the ozone layer was indeed on a path to recovery. The 2016 study, which tracked the evolution of the size of the ozone hole over Antarctica, observed that stratospheric ozone concentrations were continuing to increase and that the size of the Antarctic ozone hole had declined by half the size of the continental U.S. between 2000 and 2015. The authors of the study also noted that they expected the ozone layer to fully heal sometime between 2040 and 2070. https://www.britannica.com/story/is-the-ozone-layer-finally-healing-itself
BACK TO THE FUTURE: COULD CARS ONE DAY BE POWERED BY WASTE? https://www.shell.com/inside-energy/back-to-the-future.html
As the world’s waste mounts, a Shell pilot plant will turn rubbish – including food, cardboard, plastics and paper – into petrol or diesel that can power cars.
At the end of the film Back to the Future something amazing happens. Doc Brown appears in his time-travelling DeLorean car and, as he talks excitedly to Marty McFly, he starts pulling things out of a bin.
“I need fuel,” he says, before dropping a banana skin and other bits into a hopper on the back of the car.
There is no time machine, but in Bangalore, India, Shell is building a pilot plant that will turn waste – even discarded household junk – into petrol or diesel that can power cars.
“The quest to turn rubbish into energy is this century’s alchemy,” says Dr Alan Del Paggio, vice president of CRI Catalyst Company, the Shell business which licenses the technology worldwide. “Only, it’s not magic; it’s simple chemistry.”

Biocompatible near-infrared quantum dots delivered to the skin by microneedle patches record vaccination
Kevin J. McHugh, Lihong Jing, […], and Ana Jaklenec Additional article information https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7532118/#__ffn_sectitle Therefore, we aimed to develop a platform that is robust, inexpensive, and easy-to-use to overcome the primary obstacles to implementation in the developing world. We hypothesized that information, such as vaccination history, could be encoded invisibly in the skin by applying a distinct pattern of near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent microparticles using a microneedle patch. By providing all of the requisite information on the patients themselves, and delivering microparticles in the same microneedles as the vaccine, this platform offers several key advantages compared to traditional paper or electronic medical record[s] Funding: This work was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant OPP 1150646. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7532118/

Moreover, four bufadienolides (4–7) and eight other compounds were also characterized from the title plant. The isolated compounds (1–7) were evaluated for their cytotoxicity toward MCF-7, NCI-H460, and SF-268 tumor cell lines. Among them, compounds 4 and 6 displayed significant cytotoxicity toward MCF-7 and NCI-H460 tumor cell lines at the tested concentration. In addition, the biosynthetic pathway of these α-pyrone ring-opening derivatives was also proposed. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0040402008001476

How Garbage-powered Cars Could Work By: Kristen Hall-Geisler https://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/biofuels/garbage-powered-car.htm Powering vehicles with garbage sounds as far-fetched as Mr. Fusion, but it’s already being done on a small scale. Creating liquid fuel from solid garbage involves a process called gasification, where heat — not flame — transforms carbon-based solids into synthetic gas, which can then be distilled into ethanol, an alcohol that’s already added to the gasoline supply in many states, and used in cars already on the road.
