I am a pediatric specialist caring for children with the multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). I am concerned about the possibility that the new vaccines aimed at creating immunity against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (including the mRNA vaccines of Moderna and Pfizer) have the potential to cause microvascular injury to the brain, heart, liver, and kidneys in a way that does not currently appear to be assessed in safety trials of these potential drugs.

Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. (born January 17, 1954) is an American anti-vaccine advocate, conspiracy theorist, author, and an environmental lawyer. He is the chairman of Children’s Health Defense, an anti-vaccine advocacy group. Kennedy is the son of Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of former U.S. president John F. Kennedy. He is also the president of the board of Waterkeeper Alliance, a non-profit environmental group that he helped found in 1999.

On December 11, 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine, administered as 2 doses separated by 21 days.1 Shortly after, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) issued an interim recommendation for its use.2 Following implementation of vaccination, reports of anaphylaxis after the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine emerged.3 Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs rarely after vaccination, with onset typically within minutes to hours.4
