The Rockefeller Foundation (RF) had a significant history in China by the time it undertook its China Program, a rural reconstruction initiative that ran from 1935 to 1946. It had launched the China Medical Board (CMB) in 1914 and established the Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in 1917. It supported a handful of mission colleges through the late 1920s, a legacy of the Rockefeller family’s Baptist commitments. By 1933, the RF had spent over $37 million in China, more than in any other foreign country, and most of it had been spent on the PUMC.
The Rockefeller Archive Center is an independently operated foundation that was initially established to serve as a repository for the records of Rockefeller University and various Rockefeller family philanthropy projects.[1] Until 2008, it was a division of Rockefeller University.[2][3]

China’s concentration camps exposed: Prisons at centre of Beijing’s brutal clampdown on Muslim Uighurs are caught on video secretly filmed by brave activist who documented slogans including ‘reform through labour’ By Ian Birell For The Mail On Sunday22:01 GMT 20 Nov 2021 , updated 10:38 GMT 21 Nov 2021
- A man has exposed 18 detention centres and prisons in Beijing using a covert camera hidden in his backpack
- Guan Guan, thought to be a Chinese activist studying in Taiwan, posted a 19-minute video on YouTube
- The footage shows barbed wire, guard towers, police checkpoints, army barracks and military vehicles
- One of the detention centres, around 1,000 yards long, is emblazoned with slogans ‘Reform Through Labour’
Although naturally occurring gas has been known since ancient times, its commercial use is relatively recent. In about 1000, B.C., the famous Oracle at Delphi, on Mount Parnassus in ancient Greece, was built where natural gas seeped from the ground in a flame. Around 500 B.C., the Chinese started using crude bamboo “pipelines” to transport gas that seeped to the surface and to use it to boil sea water to get drinkable water.
New material breaks world record for turning heat into electricity by Vienna University of Technology Prof. Ernst Bauer in the lab. Credit: TU Wien This allows sensors and small processors to supply themselves with energy wirelessly. Thermoelectric materials can convert heat into electrical energy. This is due to the so-called Seebeck effect: If there is a temperature difference between the two ends of such a material, electrical voltage can be generated and current can start to flow. The amount of electrical energy that can be generated at a given temperature difference is measured by the so-called ZT value: The higher the ZT value of a material, the better its thermoelectric properties.

Olive kernel wood has very good burning characteristics, high heat content, low cost and it is used as a renewable solid fuel replacing liquid fuel and heating oil. Part of the produced olive kernel wood is consumed inside the factory for heat generation and the rest is sold to heat consumers. It has been estimated that a typical olive pomace plant located in Crete, Greece consumes 42.86% of the produced olive kernel wood for its own heat generation, while the remaining 57.14% is sold to various heat consumers. 99.1% of the energy used in these plants is consumed for heating and the rest, 0.9%, for lighting and the operation of various electric devices. Olive pomace plants utilize a renewable solid fuel, which is carbon neutral, for the production of thermal energy. Therefore their CO2 emissions regarding energy utilization are due to electricity use. Installation of solar-PV panels in the plant could generate annually all the electricity needed for its operation. The current legal framework in Greece through net-metering allows the offsetting of grid electricity consumed in factories with PV electricity. The required capital cost of a solar-PV system installed in a typical olive pomace plant located in Crete, Greece in order to offset the grid electricity consumed annually has been estimated at 185,832€, the payback period of 5.33 years and the net present value at 555,671€. Since the plant could utilize only solid biomass for heat generation and could offset the grid electricity consumption with solar electricity, its total CO2 emissions due to energy use would be zero contributing positively to climate stabilization. WORLD OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION COULD ABSORB THE CO2 EMISSIONS OF A CITY THE SIZE OF HONG KONG 19.04.2018 “We can nevertheless confirm that olive oil production is beneficial for the environment since these data indicate that the olive tree is the tree with the greatest capacity for absorption of atmospheric CO2”.
Why Eating More Olive Oil Can Help Fight Climate Change Next to one of the oldest olive groves in the world, researchers discussed how olive oil is not just good for people, but the planet, too.
Lisa Radinovsky | January 16th, 2020 data that support a concrete link between olive oil production and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
The IOC has developed an assessment tool and sponsored extensive research on olive cultivation, olive oil production, and bottling, considering the methods used for approximately 95% of olive oil production in different parts of the world. They discovered that for every liter of virgin olive oil produced, 10.65 kg of carbon dioxide are removed from the atmosphere.

Olive waste is being turned into clean fuel to power homes in Syria By Maeve Campbell & Ben Anthony Horton • 12/11/2021 ‘Birin’ is a residue left over from the olive-oil making process, and it can now be turned into fuel – Copyright Canva Locals have come up with an affordable and eco-friendly way to generate fuel in Syria, as diesel prices skyrocket around the country. Fuel made out of olive waste is being used to heat homes during the winter in a town called Armanaz, in the northwestern part of Syria’s Idlib province. Known as ‘birin’, the waste derives from the seeds of olives leftover from the olive oil-making process. During the production of olive oil, large amounts of pomace (pulpy residue) aren’t used – so these are pressed using a special machine and dried in the sun. The dried waste is then turned into cylindrical pellets which act as biomass fuel. So not only is the process environmentally-friendly, it’s free to produce. “Diesel is now too expensive for people to buy, so the alternative is to use ‘birin'”, says Abu Saeed, supervisor at the factory. The price of diesel has increased significantly in Syria in recent years as a result of the country’s devastating decade-long war.
Scientist: Carbon Dioxide Doesn’t Cause Global Warming Noted geologist says Earth needs more, not less, carbon dioxide to feed plant life.By Paul BedardOct. 7, 2009 By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers A noted geologist who coauthored the New York Times bestseller Sugar Busters has turned his attention to convincing Congress that carbon dioxide emissions are good for the Earth and don’t cause global warming. Leighton Steward is on Capitol Hill this week armed with studies and his book Fire, Ice and Paradise in a bid to show senators working on the energy bill that the carbon dioxide cap-and-trade scheme could actually hurt the environment by reducing CO2 levels.
Much of the global warming debate has focused on reducing CO2 emissions because it is thought that the greenhouse gas produced mostly from fossil fuels is warming the planet. But Steward, who once believed CO2 caused global warming, is trying to fight that with a mountain of studies and scientific evidence that suggest CO2 is not the cause for warming. What’s more, he says CO2 levels are so low that more, not less, is needed to sustain and expand plant growth.
Trying to debunk theories that higher CO2 levels cause warming, he cites studies that show CO2 levels following temperature spikes, prompting him to back other scientists who say that global warming is caused by solar activity.
Worse, if CO2 levels are cut, he warns, food production will slow because plants grown at higher CO2 levels make larger fruit and vegetables and also use less water. He also said that higher CO2 levels are not harmful to humans. As an example, he said that Earth’s atmosphere currently has about 338 parts per million of CO2 and that in Navy subs, the danger level for carbon dioxide isn’t reached until the air has 8,000 parts per million of CO2.
