El científico colombiano Manuel Elkin Patarroyo ha sido tendencia en plataformas digitales por cuenta de una declaraciones que concedió en SEMANA en 2020 y en las que habló del proceso de vacunación que se avecina en Colombia. ¿Qué dijo entonces el científico que ha suscitado tanto revuelo? En diálogo con la periodista Salud Hernández-Mora dio cuenta de cuáles son sus inquietudes de cara a la vacuna contra covid-19.
De acuerdo con el científico colombiano Manuel Elkin Patarroyo, no hay que dejarse “engañar” con los anuncios según los cuales las vacunas son seguras y ya. “Déjeme yo hago una observación para todo mis compatriotas. No nos dejemos engañar por eso, que lo máximo que nos están diciendo a nosotros es que produce anticuerpos que duran 26 días. Y el que más largo la ha llevado la la llevado a 40 días”, agregó. “Las defensas son de muy corta vida, no más de 60 días”, agregó. “Las moleculas de este coronavirus inducen respuestas de muy corta vida, no duran más de 60 días. Y usualmente en una infección para un individuo que ha tenido la enfermedad, los anticuerpos empiezan a desaparecer a las cuatro semanas”.
Patarroyo también aseguró que si se llega a establecer una vacuna, esta no será efectiva para toda la humanidad. “Hacer una vacuna a través de biología molecular es algo que va a ser, sino imposible, difícil, muy limitada. Le va a servir a un poquito de gente, no a toda la gente. Digamos que la estén desarrollando los británicos, le va a servir a los británicos y de pronto a los anglosajones, por la sencilla circunstancia de que van a manejar muy bien esa característica genética, pero obviamente no les va a servir en China, que tiene la variante genética”.

Protests against the Green Pass began early on Friday outside the big Adriatic port of Trieste
Dockers at three big ports have staged protests at the requirement for all Italian workers to show a Covid pass.
The Green Pass shows whether you have had the Covid vaccine, recovered from it or had a negative test.
It became mandatory for all workplaces on Friday.
About 6,000 workers went on strike outside Trieste port, a maritime gateway for northern Italy, Germany, Austria and central Europe.

More than a thousand people demonstrated in central Rome on Friday against the use of a “Green Pass” made mandatory by the government for all workers in the country. Protesters gathered in the ancient arena of Circus Maximus, shouting slogans and denouncing the introduction of the measure, which they say limits their civil rights. “They damage our freedom, I want to be the one who decides,” said protester Luciana Conti. Many Italian port workers in Genoa and Trieste also gathered to protest the health passes, but those staff who wished to enter and work were allowed to do so. The rule – one of the world’s strictest anti-COVID measures – was approved by the Italian government in September, making it obligatory from Oct. 15 for all workers to either show proof of vaccination, a negative test or recent recovery from infection. Under the rule, effective until year-end, workers without the “Green Pass” will be suspended without pay and face a fine of up to 1,500 euros if they try to work.

Magnetofection: The Use of Magnetic Nanoparticles for Nucleic Acid Delivery
INTRODUCTION
Magnetofection is defined as nucleic acid delivery guided and mediated by magnetic force acting on associations of magnetic particles and nucleic acids or nucleic acid vectors. Vectors are bound to magnetic, usually iron oxide, nanoparticles, in most cases by noncovalent bonds. Magnetic force accumulates and/or holds magnetic vectors in a target tissue against hydrodynamic forces. In cell culture, magnetic vectors are magnetically sedimented on the target cells within minutes. Thus, the diffusion barrier to nucleic acid delivery is overcome, the full vector dose comes in contact with the target cells, and introduction of genetic material is synchronized. Nucleic acid delivery is greatly accelerated and its efficiency with many, if not most, vector types is improved. Magnetofection is applicable to small and large nucleic acids. Other advantages include low-dose requirements, the possibility of confining nucleic acid introduction to a localized area (magnetic targeting), and the amenability to high-throughput automation. Due to the favorable dose-response profile and the rapid kinetics, vector-related toxicity can be kept low. This protocol describes the use of magnetic nanoparticles for delivery of nucleic acid to target cells, using either nonviral or viral vectors.

Abstract
In recent years, gene therapy has received considerable interest as a potential method for the treatment of numerous inherited and acquired diseases. However, successes have so far been hampered by several limitations, including safety issues of viral-based nucleic acid vectors and poor in vivo efficiency of nonviral vectors. Magnetofection has been introduced as a novel and powerful tool to deliver genetic material into cells. This technology is defined as the delivery of nucleic acids, either ‘naked’ or packaged (as complexes with lipids or polymers, and viruses) using magnetic nanoparticles under the guidance of an external magnetic field. This article first discusses the principles of the Magnetofection technology and its benefits as compared with standard transfection methods. A number of relevant examples of its use, both in vitro and in vivo, will then be highlighted. Future trends in the development of new magnetic nanoparticle formulations will also be outlined.

Los implantes médicos se utilizan desde hace mucho tiempo. Pero los investigadores y científicos han tratado de idear implantes más pequeños y eficaces cada año. Con este nuevo chip, los científicos pueden haber conseguido por fin lo que llevan años intentando.
Con un volumen de sólo 0,1 mm3, comparable al de un ácaro del polvo, los investigadores de la Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias Aplicadas de la Universidad de Columbia creen haber desarrollado el sistema de chip único más pequeño del mundo. Abstract
Aim: COVID-19 is currently the biggest threat to mankind. Recently, ivermectin (a US FDA-approved antiparasitic drug) has been explored as an anti-SARS-CoV-2 agent. Herein, we have studied the possible mechanism of action of ivermectin using in silico approaches. Materials & methods: Interaction of ivermectin against the key proteins involved in SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis were investigated through molecular docking and molecular dynamic simulation. Results: Ivermectin was found as a blocker of viral replicase, protease and human TMPRSS2, which could be the biophysical basis behind its antiviral efficiency. The antiviral action and ADMET profile of ivermectin was on par with the currently used anticorona drugs such as hydroxychloroquine and remdesivir. Conclusion: Our study enlightens the candidature of ivermectin as an effective drug for treating COVID-19.
